At Siracusa Moving and Storage we understand that moving can be a stressful and overwhelming event in someone’s life. Which is why we aim to remind you of all the extra tasks people commonly overlook. One of those being preparing your Refrigerator for your move. Whether you are relocating locally or across the country, it is important to properly prepare your refrigerator for your move to ensure that you receive your fridge in wonderful condition.
1.Thinking Ahead
In the weeks prior to your move, think about your grocery hauls and strategically plan to buy the bare necessities. Buy less perishable goods to minimize waste when cleaning out your fridge. And if you have any perishables that don’t get eaten, try to donate or give away as much as possible to cut down on waist.
2. Unfreeze the Fridge
If your refrigerator includes a freezer, like most commonly do, make sure to unplug it and allow it to begin defrosting starting 24 to 48 hours before your move. Open all the doors to allow the ice to melt faster, placing towels or buckets to catch any of the dripping water. Doing this will help prevent any leakage during the transport process. Use this time with your fridge completely empty and de-iced to properly clean the entire thing, ensuring to fully dry it when done. Doing this will prevent mold, mildew and odors.
3.Ensure Shelves and Drawers are Secure
If you are choosing to leave your shelves and drawers inside the refrigerator, make sure they are properly secured. Add tap to reinforce their security and to prevent movement during transit. You can also remove all shelves and drawers and pack them separately in bubble wraps or blankets to ensure their safety during transit.
Once these steps are completed Siracusa’s trained drivers will properly pad your refrigerator to prevent scratches and dents, as well as secure all cords to prevent damage. Our drivers will properly load, transport, and deliver your refrigerators .
